If you’re considering a credential evaluation, it is important to choose the right type of report for your goals and purposes. Each report is designed to support different ventures, like studying abroad, applying for a job, or immigration. Taking the time to understand your options will help you feel confident and prepared for what’s next.

WES offers two types of standard credential evaluation reports: Document-by-Document (DxD) and Course-by-Course (CxC)

  • DxD: A standard DxD report identifies and describes each of your credentials—such as a degree or diploma—that you submit to WES. It also provides the name of the equivalent credential in terms of U.S. or Canadian education. View a sample report.
  • CxC: Like the DxD, a CxC evaluation indicates the U.S. or Canadian equivalency for each credential you have earned. However, this evaluation also includes a detailed analysis of each course listed on your transcript. In addition to noting the equivalent credential, the CxC converts your semester credits and grades to calculates a GPA on a 4.0 scale. View a sample report.

For a quick overview, watch the video below.

Which report should you choose?

Generally, a DxD report is appropriate for immigration and employment purposes and for entering a college or university program as a first-year student. A CxC report may be required by licensing boards and for higher education graduate programs.

However, the type of report you need will depend on your specific needs. That’s why it’s important to clarify for yourself what you hope to achieve with a credential evaluation. This will help you conduct appropriate research and ask the right questions to decide on the best credential evaluation report to support your goals.

If you plan to submit a credential evaluation to a particular institution or organization, we highly recommend contacting the entity and confirming which type of evaluation report is required.

As you progress in your career or education, there may come a time when you need a different type of report. When this happens, each year thousands of applicants upgrade their DxD report to a CxC report as they pursue new opportunities. Learn more about upgrading to a CxC report.
